South Australia – Senate Candidates
How to vote Carers Alliance In South Australia
No. 1 Candidate – Garry Connor –
Garry Connor is a proud and passionate father of 5 children the youngest two have Autism. Eighteen months ago Garry and his family moved from their hometown of Port Pirie to Adelaide in an attempt to secure the services needed for their sons and their family.
Garry knows full well the frustration and indignity suffered by families as they struggle to secure services that will help their children with disabilities or severe illness. Garry wants his family to have an ordinary life with the same opportunities and choices as other Australian family who do not have a child with disabilities.
Garry has accepted the candidacy for Carers Alliance because he believes a voice in parliament is needed for the cause of people with disabilities and carer-families. He believes in the 21st century, in our wealthy first-world country, it is the responsibility of government not charity to provide the services and support to people with disabilities of all ages, irrespective of how the disability is acquired, and to assist carer-families who lovingly support their family members with disability, illness or frailty.
No. 2 Candidate – Angela Groves
Angela Groves is the mother of two beautiful daughters. One daughter is at University and the other has autism and is still in primary school.
Angela is a passionate advocate for the rights of children with autism and other disabling conditions to have appropriate education, specific to their learning needs, preferably in mainstream classes, with full support.
Angela is appalled that at every level of government there is a pervasive apathy, inaction and lack of commitment to providing services that will enhance the opportunities and choices for children with disabilities and their carer-families to be included in the social, economic and cultural life of our society.
Angela is fed up with the tokenism, the platitudes and pittances which inadequately support carer-families who so often are on the job 24/7 without appropriate respite and assistance.
Angela has accepted candidacy for the Carers Alliance bid for a Senate seat in South Australia because we need voice where it counts, the parliament.
